Singapore - Jakarta

Welcome on board an exotic five-day voyage from Singapore to Jakarta! 14 months into the One Ocean Expedition, we travel between two fantastic cities in Southeast Asia in a lovely, tropical climate. This is an excellent holiday for anyone who seeks to combine exciting city visit with sail training, friendship and fantastic nature experiences at sea!

Port of departure: Singapore

Singapore is an island and city state with a very high standard of living. The city, with its 5.5 million inhabitants, is an exciting melting pot of different cultures with modern skyscrapers, beautiful temples, mosques, churches, lush parks, beautiful beaches and nice restaurants. Singapore is considered the safest city in Southeast Asia to visit. Here ou can fins great experiences for everyone.

Port of arrival: Jakarta

More and more adventurous tourists are finding their way to Jakarta, which is the capital of Indoneisa. With a population of 30 million, Jakarta is Southeast Asia's largest urban area and one of the world's most densely populated urban areas. The coastal location far south of the equator creates a tropical climate, which means that Jakarta has an average temperature of over 25 degrees all year round.

The One Ocean Expedition

Singapore - Jakarta is one of the stages in the One Ocean Expedition, a circumnavigation of the globe that started from Norway in August 2021. During 20 months, Statsraad Lehmkuhl will visit 36 different ports across the globe. The main purpose of the expedition is to create awareness and share knowledge about the important role of the sea for sustainable development in a national perspective. Research is a central part of One Ocean Expedition. As a cruise crew, you will also be part of this grand project! We hope you will have great experiences on board and go ashore as a dedicated sea ambassador!

Covid-19: entry and cancellation

As of today, both Singapore and Jakarta have strict restrictions on entry for tourists. But we are planning for the voyage to go as scheduled. Other countries the ship has visited, such as the USA and Cuba, also had entry restrictions when the expedition started from Norway in August 2021. However, as more and more countries have put in place good vaccine programs and test routines, more and more nations have gradually reopened their borders. One Ocean Expedition has therefore gone as planned, with the completion of all planned port calls. We are optimistic that the voyages in Asia in the autumn of 2022 will also be carried out as planned.

If the voyage has to be canceled due to the pandemic, the cruise tickets will be refunded.

Boarding

After everyone has arrived safely on board, been registered and assigned a hammock and cupboard, the first joint activity is mustering on the main deck. The ships´s crew will give a thorough safety review. The training starts immediately.

While you, as part of the voyage crew, can log off for a few days and have a nice break from everyday digital hustle and bustle and availability. Now, the sea awaits!

A small world of our own

At the crossing over the South China Sea towards Jakarta, the people on board will create their own small community. A sailing voyage with Statsraad Lehmkuhl is an active and social kind of holiday. You will become an important part of the crew. All acitivities happens under the friendly guidance of the ship's permanent, experienced crew of 25. We all contribute to the daily operation of the ship. We sail the big vessel together and share the nice moments with each other. Far away from the rest of the world, we also get plenty of time to relax, learn good seamanship and "find peace" in beautiful nature experiences. Close ties and lasting friendships arise on such a wonderful journey.

There may also be challenging moments. Not everyone is equally well prepared to sleep along side in hammocks, take watches twice a day and share most things with the otheres. For people with a fear of heights, the rig can be challenging to get into. But at the same time it is fantastic to see how people rise to the occation! From gently pulling the ropes and shiver in hte knees when entering the rigging, you will quickly experience a fantastic feeling of mastery of the various activities on board! Only a couple of days into the voyage, you stand at the helm and handle teh ropes and sails like there is northing to it! And it does not take long before everyone responds with a load "HOY!" to the crew's instructions! You will probarbly also learn how to sing shanty before we reach Jakarta!

NB: Entering the rigging is a completely voluntary activity. If you don´t want to go up, that is perfectly fine.
